Seared tuna is one of my absolute favorite healthy dishes to order at a restaurant. It's light and healthy but still filling and nutritious! It is one of those dishes that people either love or can't handle though, so it's not something I make for company often. Last week my dad stopped by for dinner and it was the perfect opportunity to make this salad - I know that he loves it as much as I do. The recipe is simple and even easier if you can get someone to do the grilling for you. Our inspiration for this salad is the famous ahi tuna salad from Houston's - yum! This recipe serves 3 or 4.
Ingredients (for the salad)
1 pound tuna steak
sea salt
pepper
sesame seeds
mixed field greens
1 large avocado, sliced
1 large mango, sliced
1/4 red onion, sliced
3/4 cup edamame
handful of dried wonton noodles for garnish
For the dressing:
1/2 cup vegetable oil
3 tablespoons rice wine vinegar
2 tablespoons soy sauce
2 teaspoons hoisin sauce
Directions:
Heat the grill until very hot (John could probably give you better directions here!). Season the tuna with salt, pepper, and sesame seeds. Sear tuna steaks for one minute on each side, remove and slice. Meanwhile combine all salad ingredients except for avocado (I just think it's prettier to arrange the avocado slices on top) and wontons in a large bowl. Whisk the dressing ingredients and lightly toss salad, and serve on plates. Arrange tuna pieces, avocado, and wontons on top of salad and enjoy!
